These exercises can serve as preparation exercises for some more intense sports or they can complement the exercise of Tai Chi Chuan. People who maintain a certain posture for a long time will also find that the exercises help to relieve fatigue. By practicing the stretching exercises all of the joints, ligaments, and muscles in your body can take part in the practice and hence benefit from it.
The movements should be done slowly and smoothly using internal force, usually one movement cycle for each breath. Begin with small movements and gradually apply more tension to the ligaments. You should be able to feel tension and tightness in the muscles while stretching. The intensity of exercising and the length of time spent should be increased gradually. Coordinate the movements with the breathing, but never hold the breath.
